Service Engine Soon just came on

So I stopped at the store on my lunch hour, when I went to start the truck nothing happened, turned the key back and tried starting it again. The truck started right up but after a few miles the "server engine soon" light came on and the truck started running really rough - no power and it felt like it was misfiring. I pulled over, shut it off, and started it again - the light went out and it was running fine again - drove 5 miles back to work without any problems - any idea what might have caused this

Thanks
JD

This isn't good - I just checked the codes with the Peake tool and all but one cyclinder was misfiring - Strange part is it drove fine the 30 mile ride home - just cleared the code - but am concerned it might happen again

How old? There were problems with some early coil packs.

If your truck if running XP, did you apply all the latest and greatest patches?
:)

JohnD 05-23-2007 05:15 PM

It is a 2001 4.4 with 47,000 miles

Zulu95 05-23-2007 05:23 PM

Possible it's the coil packs. Bavauto.com does a nice set or (of course) the dealer.

If it were a constant misfire I would agree it is most likely the coil packs or plugs, but being that 6 out of 8 misfired at once, I am leaning towards some type of sensor of MAF - anyone else experience this problem?

So 150 miles later and no problems what so ever - any idea what might have happened

that's good that your car is fine now but i have no idea. i've never heard so many cylinders would misfire together. perhaps you should get it checked out just in case.

Service Engine Soon just came on

Ok guys. I went to pick up son my from soccer field and drove about 1.5 miles, at the stop sign made about 10 feet I lost power. I turn off the ignition, turned the key back and tried starting it again. The truck started right up but after a few miles the "server engine soon" light came on and the truck started running really rough - no power and it felt like it was misfiring. I pulled over, shut it off, and started it again - manage to drove it on my driveway. Now I tried to start it it engine again, it run about 2 second and the engine stuff off. any idea what might have caused this?

I have 2002 X5 4.4 - 102K miles, bought it used and had powertrain warranty, anyone know it cover under warranty?

Thanks
Hadi

Zulu95 - Thanks for the feedback - I have ordered the Cam Sensors, and will hold on to them in case it happens again - so far 150 miles without a problem
