Clunk Clunk Clunk!
Hi All - Greetings from London
Well picked up the X5 today, on the test drive I had noticed the 'Clunk' which I recognised as control arm/ball joint issue after reading up on this forum( car has done 65k), question is, is there a logical order which things should be replaced? Lower control arm Sway bar Upper arm? Various members seem to change things in different orders when they hear the 'clunk' - what should I change first? i.e what is the MOST common cause of the clunk? Would there be any visible damage to the sway bar if I got under there and looked at it? tia FAR |
lower control arm and sway bar links seems most common. check your tie rods by swinging the wheel with engine off and listening.

I took my car into bmw croydon for an oil service and the guy there did it for free, he said there were some loose bolts which had some play. I would advise to get it on a ramp and get all the bolts tightened and looked at before spending any money on anything else |
cheers for the reply fella, will get em to do that first....
