CD player does it play MP3's?
 

Does the factory fit 6 disc changer play MP3's? anyone have any idea?

Mine does. I just tried it last night.

I know the older ones don't. Most have installed the Alpine changer to get MP3 capability.

For which vehicle do we speak?

OEM in '05 4.8

whoa...I'm going to check my March '05 build 4.4 tonight to see if the OEM 6-disc changer is also MP3 capable. I didn't even check...

I have an 05 4.8 as well and last time I checked it will not recognize CD with MP3s. Which discs did you burn them on? BMW did change the part# on the 6-disc changer on 05 models. From 65 12 6 913 390 to 65 12 6 945 021.

I also have a '05 X5 3.0d with the 6 disc charger that doesnt read MP3, WTF???

BMW not very consistant are they. I am waiting to pick up my new X5 in few weeks. So cant tell you if mine does yet. But have ordered the 6 disc changer without knowing if it plays MP3's or not..

I have lots of Planetary Radio, and SETI Radio shows, (bit of an Astronomy nut)downloaded over the last few years all stored as MP3's, and was looking forward to finally getting to listen to them while in the X5. My 3.0D is due in 2-3 weeks.
Will let y'all know.
Hopefully they will play natively,
rather than have to burn them as regular audio CD's.

I used Fujifilm CD's and my truck was born last month. :thumbup:
