Exhaust: Borla, Magnaflow, Flowmaster?

Hey all, wanting to get exhaust on my 03 4.4, i dont want it obnoxious loud, just something pleasing, esp. when you tap the gas. Question, putting on exhaust system (mainly 2 mufflers) will that reduce mpg?

What exhaust or mufflers would sound the best? Borla, magnaflow, flowmaster, other? (the dinan, eisenhamn bla bla is too $$) Some ppl are saying just putting in a x pipe makes a huge sound difference?

suggestions? sound clips?

Remus is all you need.. No doubt there's a v8 once you get it.

i just installed the magnaflow x pipe. very suttle but noticeable . I believe the stock 4.8 exhaust is very satisfying. cost about 900.

remus is expensiveee, that x pipe make a difference on stock 4.4 exhaust tho?

Remus is expensive, but Borla probably is as well. Magnaflow and Flowmaster are great mufflers, but I wouldn't use them for BMW cars. I think the emissions for BMW are a little different so they might not do anything for you. BMW's already have pretty good mufflers. Magnaflow and Flowmaster work great for american cars because the stock mufflers suck. Gives them a great sound for 300 bucks.

If you just want sound, then go x or straight pipe. Cheap and fast. There are some clips on you-tube.

Here are some clips from an earlier post.

Tbal69, Pay attention to the Eisenmann exhaust. I have heard the race version in person on two different E53's and sounds delicious.

:iagree: Leave the Flowmaster and Magnaflow to american cars.

lol, i think i am not going to do any exhaust, just way to much $$$, i will go ahead with the x pipe, and try to find some 4.8 exhaust.

I had a Flowmaster on my X5 and it sounded fine. I think a 70 series would be quieter and sound fine. The X5 is part American anyway.

any sound clips? i dont want it loud at all, just pleasant sound.

Ekaz's 4.8 sounded amazing, I heard it on his homepage a while back

Description: MagnaFlow Universal Stainless Steel Tru-X Pipe, Part # 10790, 2.25" Inlet / 2.25" Outlet X Pipe

Overall length 305mm, 61.5 outside diameter all pipes, 1.6mm wall thickness - measured by myself.
Please keep in mind when you cut off the Resonator to install the X-Pipe you'll need some more pipes to get it fixed(X-Pipe almost twice shorter than Resonator). Better inform your muffler shop in advance.

PS. My opinion the best for BMW X5 is X-pipe + SuperSprint.
