Black vs aluminum running boards

What do you guys think? I am considering running boards for my sterling gray 2004. Do the running boards make it that much easier to egress? I am concerned that the running boards may ruin some of the lines of the X. I am leaning towards black boards because I am not sure about the polka dot aluminum ones. Does anyone have any pics of the black ones?

Trust me...go with the aluminum ones. I think most people on this board probably have that one. And there are pictures on the DIY install pages. Good luck.

I am also thinking about the running boards. Are they actually wider by more than an inch, over the stock? And other than the board, are there any other parts necssary for the 3.o sport model? Where is the best place to get them other than the dealer?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, they are wider than a inch over stock. I have seen black r/b but I prefer aluminum r/b and I think they add to looks, just did the install on mine. It comes with wheel arches so on 3.0 you don't need anything else other than rivet gun if you are installing yourself. Depending on where you are located you can get from Crevierbmw or pacificbmw on west cost or circlebmw on east cost in NJ at discounted price. If you have your BMWCCA membership probably your local dealer may also give 20% or 10% discount.

SO the boards come with wheel arches, does it go over the stock arches or does it replace it? how much did you pay?

Thanks
