Trunk Lid Rubber Stop Issue

I need two new adjustable rubber stops that screw onto the hex bolts at the base of the rear trunk/hatch lid. So I went into the stealer near my house on Friday and the idiot at the parts counter told me, "that'll be $31.00 for each side." I looked at him like he was on crack (maybe he was). I just looked up the part numbers and it doesn't look like you can purchase the rubber stops alone, they may come as a set with the hex bolts they screw onto, does this seem correct? The link to the parts page is below. It doesn't look like the rubber stops are specifically listed unless I missed them on the parts page. From the parts list the hex bolts are listed as #11 (at 28 cents for the pair) am I missing something? Where the heck did he get $62.00 from? I want to print this sheet and go back to the stealer...am I looking at the correct part #?

Man, that sounds awfully expensive for a couple of rubber stops. :dunno:

I think the items in question are #35 (P/N 51247171557 and 51247171558) on this diagram. The #11 screw is a Torx bolt. I haven't a clue why they charge a core fee on these parts. :loco: Did the parts guy mention anything about a core?

no he didn't mention anything about a core charge. I showed him the rubber stop and said this is all I need and he said the whole unit comes together, I guess he meant #35.

So I just coughed up the $75 and change for both stopper assemblies because I couldn't take the knocking sound from the tailgate anymore. I received the parts yesterday and the part is completely redesigned!!

The shaft is now spring loaded and the stopper is longer. It's like suspension for the tailgate. There is no more adjustment since the stopper is spring loaded, takes the science out of it. It's a far superior design!! There is even foam padding on the back of the base of the shaft that goes against the body of the car.

This is finally going to solve the problem! Not sure why this hasn't been discussed on the forums yet.

Right 51 24 7 171 558

Enjoy!

That's good to know, thanks for sharing.

I was able to solve my rattle with a bit of tweaking on my old stoppers, but glad to hear that BMW came up with a proper solution!

I'm leaving the dealership now, just picked mine up, they actually had them in stock, can't wait to install them and get rid of that damn rattle, this should be a sticky!!

This is such great news for all E53 owners I think I'll make a separate post about it so everyone knows.

Installed mine last night, drove it to work and back, as they say, "silence is golden"...lol!!

just ordered mine from ECS Tuning. I hope its the new updated spring style (should be as they buy directly from BMW for this part). I'm excited to see if it fixes some of my rattles.
