Any good synthetic. I used Amsoil, other use Redline or just OEM.

Do a search. Widely accepted are the Mobil1, Redline, Amsol, German Castrol, or the OEM (which happens to be rebottled Castrol anyways).

Any service rated synthetic of the correct weight will work fine. I've been using Amsoil for a many years with great results, long engine life, low consumption.

Thanks for your feedback, I have gone to a couple of AutoZone and they do not carry Amsoi or Redline.
Would you guys mind sharing your site where you get your amsoil or redline?

Thanks again.

www.amsoil.com "find a dealer near you", also check "comparitive oil testing" for results. Good luck

why not OEM? i bought OEM oil and filter at local BMW dealer for 60 bucks that includes 8 Quarts, 1 Oil filter. and have any mechanic with access to a lift do it for $17. Why DYI when it is dangerous and dirty? 17$ works for me. I know it would be more special to DYI but, with $17 and 15 mins, I wouldn't mind to forget the special bond part.

I just did my 4.4i with the BMW High Performance Synthetic 5w30, I believe the 3.0 specs the same thing.

As Chucker pointed out the "bobistheoilguy.com" site is great, that is the site that lead me to decide to use dealer oil. Happy reading

SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil

SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil
There is also an online lookup chart for cars/trucks:

http://www.amsoil.com/scripts/runisa...msoiloaf:index

I use it in my 4.4 2001 and 1995 525. I change it once a year.

In the 525 I change the filter when the service lights go to yellow.

X5 service lights lasts one year so no extra filter change.

Amsoil 5W-30 Synthetic. I change it every 10K and use about 1/2 quart.

It's marked "Castrol" on the cap on X5 2001, I used Castrol Synthetic 5w30.
