Xenon retrofit Question

Hey guys/gals
Just retrofitted Xenon's to my X5 using lights from a 2002 vehicle which had factory Xenons. My 03 did not have Xenons and thus does not have the auto leveling for the lights installed. However the set of Xenon lamps I got does have autoleveling and Xenon of course. Does anyone know if the autoleveling is retrofitable for my vehicle? Is it a matter of plug and play since the lights have the motors and all just nothing to hook them up to in my non Xenon factory vehicle or what?

Anybody done it? How much? How involved? It would be wonderful vs manually leveling and adjusting the lights.

I've already converted the lights over to Xenon harnesses and an OEM ballast from Mtech so that's done and all I need is the leveling part if possible.

Thanks
Rob

Autoleveling requires a significant amount of rewiring in the car. In all honesty, it's not worth it in the least bit. Autoleveling is a nice feature to have but it is in way necessary for a fully functional kit.

just plug the wires to the hid headlights and leave the autolevel motor, the xenon works fine without the autolevel function.

Last time I looked it costs about $1400 for the kit plus install.

For another reason I just happen to have the dealer retrofit PDF on my pc and it's a huge job quoted at 7.5 hours labor alone....

If I remember correctly they quote 8.5 for the xenon retro-fit. Then they have to reprogram.....

Okay you've convinced me...I'll leave it alone and manually adjust the Xenons! :)

I'm thinking of doing this upgrade too.

Can you just manually adjust the xenons?

Certainly, and that's the recommended method. In fact, even a car with autolevel still requires the correct manual level adjustment to tell the car where the correct level should be.

Autoleveling is by no means required for a xenon retrofit, it is a nice feature to have. The only time it plays a roll is if the car is heavily loaded from the rear and the mechanism adjusts the headlights down a bit to compensate for the higher front end.

Any wiring, errors or programing required?

Hi Rob et al,
I'm looking at fitting OEM xenons to my 03 X5 and just wondering if they are 'plug n play' or whether there are other issues that need considering (re programing etc etc)

Cheers,

Ian
