vibrating steering wheel

Whazzz up X5 world.

I accidentally drove my 02 X5 over a deep pothole in NYC (I'm sure some of you guys know the adverse driving conditions us newyorkers go through) and afterwards my steering wheel began vibrating. The intensity of the vibration would increase as the speedometer increased - I stop running the car and restarted and noticed that the vibration ceased. Two days later I hit a smaller pothole and the vibration started again. I checked the tires which are fine so I'm not sure what the issue maybe.

Any ideas X5 World?

Bent wheel or another slight possibility is that you knocked a/some wheel weight(s) off. I'm not sure why shutting off and restarting would have anything to do with your steering feeling shaky. :dunno:

I'm sure others will offer their opinions.

its a bent wheel from my experience. caltrans was working on a patch of road here in LA and they didn't even put an orange cone and driver side wheel fell in the huge/deep pothole and i knew the minute it started shakin' the my wheel was bent.

Yup, sounds like bent rim/missing weight - any tire/wheel place can check for you in few minutes.

If you have the tools and the know how, switch one front tire with one back tire, drive it and see if that takes care of the problem. If it still vibrates, change the other side.If it still vibrates,it's something in the steering.
