Whining Noise During Hard Acceleration - Transmission Problem
 

I have a whining noise coming from the engine compartment under hard acceleration. It is definitely a new sound that was not present until recently.

I did a search and read about a few guys with whistling coming from the 3.0 but this is more of a whine than a whistle. Kind of sounds like the sound of a supercharger!!

Could it be the water pump bearings? or the belt drive for the compressor or the water pump?? For that matter it could be bearings on the compressor.

Anyone else had this problem in the past??? Might have to take it in to the local indy servce station around here.

When I accelerate hard I hear a whining noise but it comes from the passenger seat. :rolleyes:

I have been hearing a whining noise recently on my 4.6 too. It does sound like a supercharger. It is intermittent and happens on normal or hard acceleration. I remember some threads about this from a year ago.... I'll try to locate them.

I am one of those 3.0 owners with the squeel. Its currenlty in the shop now for it. They found out its a bearing in the iddle air valve that caused the squeeling. (this is only the 3rd time in for this problem) Def not a whining sound though. Good luck!

My 4.6 does the same thing, without reading all of the threads listed above what's the verdict?
