Service engine soon

Hello everyone, Im new to this forum and the X5 scene. My m3 doesn't have this option, so just wondering what are the main casues for the light to come on. Im a DIY kind of guy and just ordered the the adapter for the Peak fault code reader to see if I can find out this way. Any help would be great.:thumbup:

Need more info;

Year/Model etc..

Miles??

Is this the maintenance light or a genuine issue, mileage will help sort that out.

Its a 2001 4.4 sport package. The car has 52k and just got serviced before buying about 3 weeks ago.

First off, make sure you gas cap is tight. This will throw the light sometimes.

Hmm, yeah with 52K it was just serviced for the 50K standard. Might want to check what the dealer did exactly and go over it. Other reply was correct, a loose gas cap can cause a check light.

Does it feel like it's running okay? My 2001 had an SES light which turned out to be the cam sensor. Everything ran & felt fine, but still had an SES light. Hopefully it's just a sensor somewhere.
