Hit by a rock
 

On the way home from my wife picking up Harry Potter book, we heard what sounded like a gun shot go off as we drove by a residential area set behind a large berm along the road. Pulled in to next cross street to try and see what had happened. Still wasn't sure where the noise had come from, both of our ears were ringing. Found point of impact on front passenger window. Wife had cracked the window open, and the projectile came within a couple of inches of entering the vehicle.

Called the cops, took her home, went back to look for punks in the neighborhood and to meet the cops to show them exactly where it happened. Didnt see anyone, except a cop. They had had a simlar report earlier in the night.

I'm just happy wife wasn't hurt, and really, really suprised the glass held up to the impact, given how loud it was. Scuffed good, but intact. Panzerglas, I guess. Fookers. :angryfire

No, just loud impact like a gun going off. The surface of the glass is scuffed in such a way, and over a large enough area that it almost had to be a rock.

What road were you on?

Snowden River Parkway, just north of intersection with Dobbin Rd/Dried Earth Blvd. There are some houses separated by a large dirt berm on the east side of Snowden. Rock came from that side.

I saw the damage in person today at the meet. You are very lucky the window didn't break!!

If there was going to be damage, I would rather it be glass, and unbroken glass at that, so fate was relatively kind. Rude awakening when driving in the early morning, though.

On Bimmerfest, someone's E46 got hit by a rock thrown up on the freeway, and the side impact airbag + HPS deployed.
