How does someone respond if something is easy to do. I think changing my oil is about the easiest thing you can do to a car. However, I have friends that would never attempt it. If you can do brakes or struts you should be able to do the valve cover gaskets. I did mine on my 540, it was a pain and took about 5 hours but I wouldn't say it was hard. It's straight forward.

Check out BMWTIPS.com That is for the E39 5-series but it will give you some insight as to what you will be in for.

Good Luck.

the passenger side is a cake walk. Took me 15 minutes. The driver side is a different story. There are lots of hoses and harnesses in the way. It's tough to get the gasket to sit in place in the back while trying to snake it into position. BTW this was done on a 4.4i. Goodluck

I would say it is a pain in the ass to do, I had my bmw mech do it for me, it's pretty time consuming and there are a few things to move out of the way just like Silver 5 said. I let the pros handle that one.
