The X didn't start this morning

At first I thought the battery in my remote didn't work. I opened the door with the key and tried to start up. Nothing. OK, I'll get dad to jump start her for me. One problem, I can't open the tailgate. If I only read the manual I would have known that you can open all the doors by turning the key in the drivers door a second time - dealer told me that this morning. However I noticed something that can't be right.

When I was trying to get to my cables and couldn't get the tailgate open I figured I would reach around and open the rear door from inside and open the cargo cover from the back seat. None of the doors would open from inside. :wtf: I tried all three. What if it was an accident that caused the battery to disconnect or something and you can't open the doors from inside. Not good. Please tell me I'm missing something. If not, BAD BMW. :tsk:

If you were in an accident, all of the doors would automatically unlock.
Hope ya get her running soon!

Sudesh 07-26-2007 12:08 PM

Did you try the terminals under the hood!! Thats where to jump start.

Yes, I know the terminals are under the hood, I'm a girl, that doesn't mean I'm blonde  My jumper cables were in the cargo area. .

The doors would not open from the inside. That's my point...

jwilburn 07-26-2007 12:31 PM

Dumb question...did you pull twice? When mine lock automatically you have to pull twice, once to unlock once to open.

Dumb i know but thought I would throw it out there.

 Yes I did. It makes me crazy when passengers don't know how to open the doors and only pull it once.

jwilburn 07-26-2007 12:36 PM

Hmmm note to self...do not lock doors and run down battery while you are inside car.

Hmmm kick it hard so they can "automatically unlock in an accident." har har :)

AutoXer 07-26-2007 12:38 PM

Very very odd. Even if the battery is dead, door locks should work mechanically and independently of each other. Never had this problem with any of my Beemers before.

Good luck Laura!

Def weird. Should be able to unlock the rear doors by pulling the door handles from inside twice. It's all mechanical and not electrically operated.

On the X3, if the doors are locked and the windows are down, you can pull on the interior door handle all you want and it won't unlock. I haven't tried it on the X5 becuase I didn't want the alarm going off. :dunno:

BMW X5 07-26-2007 01:13 PM

try climbing over the front seat to get into the rear to drop the seat down? Seems like just getting into the cargo area of a car shouldn't be this tough?

cmyX6go 07-26-2007 02:01 PM

Obviously I could have done that with my dress on but chose not to. The point is the doors should open from the inside.

was your dad wearing a dress too?:nanana:

so at this point, you still have not been able to start your car? Doesn't 2005 X5's come with roadside assistance? I know my GTI does... have a tow truck come and provide you a jump to get you going, and I'm sure the tailgate will open then.

Uhhhh, yes, it was started hours ago and is already at the dealer. Again, point is shouldn't the doors always open from inside.

cmyX6go 07-26-2007 03:44 PM

Just spoke to the service advisor. My battery is testing fine  They're going to keep it till tomorrow and test it again in the morning.

great, good to hear! I haven't the slightest idea why your doors didn't open, the dealer hasn't given you any ideas?

I'm going to blow up that Focus. You get used what happens when you jump on a V8. Strange thing I noticed. No one screws with you when your driving a Ford Focus. No one wants race, no one cuts me off, rides up my a$$ or gives me dirty looks. What's up with that?

L, Most drivers suspect you are an illegal alien with few driving skills, lil' English and no insurance...thus, they avoid you.

They have a mobile guy that comes down to the dealership (Open Road in Edison, NJ). I'll see if I can get his card.
