is this sensible at 190,000kms?
 

Hi all,
I'm thinking of going ahead with my first X5 buy. Its a 2000 4.4. the price is not bad, but is the milage to much? I don't use the car more than 2-3 times aweek for short journeys, but I don't want to risk its going to be OK. Do the 4.4's last well? Any help appreciated.

its is 120k miles, i would never buy any bmw with that high milage to be honest. first you can't buy warranty for that vehicle, second its time that everything in a bmw start to break, transmission to be the first. even if you don't drive the car that much, it is still prone to break anyway. and when they do break, it could cost you even more than what you spent on the car originally. just my 2 cents.

I agree, inless its a one time owner and you know him and he has done all the matience and is very anal about it.

If you got a really great price, just know you are going to have some maintenance expenses. BMW's are incredibly strong vehicles. If you keep them in good repair and fix what breaks, they will run for a very long time. It also helps if you are handy as often it's the small things that break and become annoying. The single biggest expense would be the transmission. The engine, if well maintained could last beyond 300K miles. Good luck

i wouldn't take any chances on a bmw. to be able to last 300k like you said it would. you must have been the original owner that you know everything about the car from the day it was "born". for example if he got it for $13k and brakes, cv boots, windows regulators, door actuators, water pump, alley pan gasket, oil seperator, transmission, cluster display, thermal stat housing, maf sensors, cam position sensors....could cost him more that what he paid for the x. dont talk him into buying this vehicle, we own x5s, and know stuff about the x, why not help him avoid the big expense he will be on.

And what are you going to do when you are ready for a new car? Add 10K miles/Km's to it and you hit 200. Who else is going to buy a 200k vehicle?

Well if you get the car at a really good price and it has been well maintained then it should be ok. MAKE SURE YOU GET WARANTY WITH IT OR BUY SOME ITS WORTH IT :)

he already told us the mileage on the car its 190K km you can't get warranty for it. dont get tricked into some "BMW" "performace" "solid car" "nice car"....just dont buy it period. save some more money get a little lower mile or a newer one.

I'll take it! I have 123500 miles on my 2001 4.4. It was my sisters and I bought it from her @ 103000 miles. It has aged like a fine wine. Knock on wood NO major problems.
