2000 x5 4.4??
I need a daily driver and my buddy had a '01 4.4 that i loved. I found a 2000 4.4 with 70k miles for only $22k.
My question, any problems with the 2000 model year? Is there a difference between the 2000 and 2001? This one that i'm looking at does not have Navi..... can i get a OEM navi system installed or do i have to go aftermarket? If i go aftermarket will it look clean? thanks in advance! Frank |

It seems many of the issues were addressed for the 01 model year X5. The only common defect my 01 has suffered from has been a bad driver's side door lock, which BMW fixed under goodwill. As far as the OEM Nav goes, retrofitting one, according to many members here at X5 World, is a major job, and a chore and a pain in the arse. King has done two of them, however, so I'd day he's our resident expert. Some members have aftermarket systems, hopefully they'll chime in, and you can search the forums in the meantime. Mileage on the one you're specifically speaking of is a bit high, and you should thoroughly check the service and accident history before you decide to purchase that one. My personal philosophy on mileage differs from what many people think- I think it is more a matter of how the vehicle was driven than how far of for how many hours. Nevertheless, some parts are just gonna wear out over time, and any higher mileage vehicle will begin to show signs of wear and need new parts, so be prepared for that, and try to become a decent mechanic to save some $$ from the growing hourly rates for professional mechanics, which at my BMW dealer are now upwards of $110 per hour. Good luck, franko! Let us know how it goes! JV |
