Engine Oil indicator

Hello,

Today, I checked the engine oil indicator and the oil is become lower than the max, is like 3/4 between the min and the max. The last service and oil change was 2600 miles ago.

I wanted to ask you if this is normal or I have to inform the service team.

Thanks

Marios

Check under the hood and around the vehicles for leaks. If there are none and the car is performing normally (no driveability issues), then top off the crankcase. Monitor the oil consumption. If it continues to be excessive, take it to your repair shop.

I have to add a quart about ever 6 weeks. From what I have read on here it is normal. Oh, I have no smoke in the exhaust and no leaks.....

Couldn't discern if you meant 3/4 ths below max or 3/4ths above the
min...either way, I wouldn't sweat it after 2600 miles. That is well within
BMW usage "specs" and not cause for concern, imo, espc if you see
no oil weepage or leaks.

Thanks all for your immediate reply, but thank God there are no leaks.

I would like to ask asawadude to give me a hint and examples on driveability issues. Also I wanted to ask you if there is an indication point under the hood which has leak and I have to check for
Thanks again

Driveability problems relating to low oil would be blue smoke, loss of power, and/or unusual engine noises.

Leaks can best be detected by checking the concrete under where you park - if you are unsure if the oil is new there, you can spread newspaper, leave it overnight, and see if anything shows up. Any oil that leaks out will find its way to the ground.

I am with MD, that kind of oil usage is absolutely nothing to worry about. You also don't know where they filled it to, you haven't necessarily used 3/4 litre of oil, as they may have filled it to the half way point.

Check it and see what the consumption is by monitoring the oil level over time (every few tankfuls) but don't get too worried by it.

Thanks a lot JCL,

The concrete is absolutely clean! so there are no visible leaks, is there a way to check under the car for leaks?

I will monitor the oil level and I will let you know.

Thanks

You just did. If nothing is showing on the concrete, there is nothing to worry about.
