Mine are actually seperated completely on one side. (2001 x5 4.4i) They hang open. Its sun/heat damage and common down here in Florida. I am going to get a quote from a local headliner shop to replace all the pillars and probably the headliner, too. My guess is that using non-BMW parts will make it a pretty reasonable fix. I'll let you know what I find out.

At times, I've even considered re-wrapping all the upper panels and headliner in grey microsuede. Might cost the same as just replacing the 2 panels and is easier to repair if similar wear occurs in the future.

Suede is sexy...i've seen it done a handful of times on the 5/7/M5 boards and it looks great.

So while removing the A pillar cover to run the mic wire for my AVIC install, I decided to try and steam iron my pillar. Worked like a champ!! I set it on the lowest steam setting then started running it across and the wrinkles came right out. I'm not sure how long it'll last, but for 5 minutes of my time, I'm happy. Don't forget there is a bolt behind the HPS badge when trying to remove these :)

Had both of the liners for my front pillars replaced. $40 total and the guy came to my office to do it. Look like brand new. He also does freelance work for the local dealership, so I'm sure mine were done with left over material. Very happy.

m5james, How did it turn out? Did it last over the summer? I have the same issue on one pillar.

I had the same same problem. Guess its the sun and the heat here in the south west. Anyways, I went and got a can of 3M spray adhesive. carefully peeled the cloth off and sprayed them both with it. Waited for a moment until the glue started to dry and applied the cloth pieces again. Looks like new and lastet all summer in the texas heat :)

Just make sure to not apply too much glue, so the cloth dosen't get soaked.

Ehh, its been quite a while but it's back. I've considered peeling the fabric back and using a quality spray adhesive, just havent gotten around to it.
