upgrading headlights

Hey,

im lookin to upgade my stock headlights with amber turn signals on it to the ones with the "clear" ones. I found a pair, but i just want to make sure that i can just swap the old ones out and put the new ones in with no problem.

also, if it is possible, is it easy to do? do i have to aim the lights or whateveR?

thanks,

mike

As long as you are going from

Xenon ---> Xenon

or

Halogen ---> Halogen

then it's a direct bolt-on swap. See http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=63 for tips on how to remove the headlights.

I did with mine because it's easy to do and I didn't want to damage the headlight washers. If you don't have the headlight washers then it shouldn't be necessary. Also, I have read where some with the headlight washers have done the headlight removal without doing anything with the bumber, but again I didn't want to risk damaging my washer units.

i think i would get alittle nervous removing the front bumper...if its possible to swap them without removing it it would be much better i think.

so i read your tutorial...it only show how to take it out half way (enough to take the signals out). to completely remove the headlight is there another screw soemwhere? or was removing the bumper solely to protect the washers?

To remove the headlights there are 4 screws on each unit. Two on top and two behind the trim piece that you pop off. As I said above, I took the bumper loose to protect the washer units. Taking the bumper cover loose is a piece of cake.

you just slightly unscrewed the screws for the bumper?

What year is your X? I've removed the headlights on my '01 without taking off the front bumper, and I can see the advantage Jeff got by removing the bumper. You need an atriculating ratchet head and extensions to get to those two bottom screws with the bumper on and lots of chewing gum to make sure the screws don't fall down into the bumper when removing them. There is a small trim piece that you remove on the 00-03 model to access those bottom screws, the 04 & 05 have a different front end, so the removal is different.
