BMW X5 Xenon Headlight Upgrade...
Anybody know if it's difficult to upgrade the normal halogen lamps with Xenon head lamps on an X5?... My 05 X5 has everything loaded on it bar heated seats and Xenon headlights which I had on my 01 325Ci and I miss the Xenons especially when driving on badly lit roads at night time... I asked the dealer before and they quoted me around 3000 to get the units fitted but I thought there must be a less expensive way to do it - if anyone has any other suggestions or ways around it - they would be greatly appreciated...

The best way is to go OEM. I would look for a xenon headlight assembly with projectors built for xenons. They have a lot on ebay. Halogen built headlights have a different light pattern than headlights built for xenons. Halogens converted to xenon w/o getting a xenon headlight will cause unwanted glare and potentially might blind oncoming motorists. The rest is easy. When I converted to xenon on my E53 after the new xenon headlights, OEM Ballasts and OEM D2S xenon bulbs and with a some help from other X5world members (Zulu95), it was pretty much a plug and play. Just don't try to retrofit the adaptive headlight feature, I heard its a P in the B.

I did mine in less than an hour.
Just get HID xenon headlights from ebay / ballasts for your HIDs/ HID lights (4300k is stock) . You are set to go. |
