Help! Rain sensor malfunction!
 

Hi all. There is some air gets into the purple area underneath the windshield of the rain sensor of my X, it results in malfunction of the rain sensor. Here is the question:

1, is there anyway to fix it without replacing the windshield?
2, if replacing the windshield is the only way to fix it, may I just upgrade my rain sensor to rain and light sensor (the newer version)?
3, I have the headlight switch with auto-light-on function in hand, I also have the rain and light sensor in hand, what else do I need to upgrade my rain sensor to rain and light sensor?
4, do I have to re-code any thing?

If memory serves you will need the new windshield. I'm sure it would have to be at least recoded to make the LKM work with the parts but you may also need a new LKM. Not sure but I know my dealer had to order my replacement LKM to suit the factory options listed for the vehicle. My retro Xenon threw them for a loop as they thought it needed a Xenon ready LKM but it did not have one fitted. LOL

Hi Paul, thanks for reply. So how much did you spend for the replacement including rain and light sensor, new windshield, LCM and other necessary parts? Did you acturally replace the LCM with xenon light function or non-xenon light function? Any addintional wire needed to make the rain and light sensor work? Thanks!

A number of posters have quotes somewhere in the region of $600 for the windshield. A LKM is also around $600 and I had to go with the non-xenon as I don't have the self-level computer stuff to interface with the LKM. I'm not sure if the extra wires are actually in place for the light sensor.
I don't know if the auto lights is worth the extra $$$$$! I have it on my other vehicle an it's no big deal.
There is a much cheaper Ford retro kit for around $75 that you could splice into the light wires that is self contained.

I agree that the autolight is not worth the upgrade. I have it on my X and don't use it. I don't want to be replacing the ballast for the xenon every 3 years or so because the autolight cause the headlights to be turned on at every startup (since I park in the garage) and then gets turned off immediately as I backed out of the garage. The same goes for short freeway under-passes/bridges. The constant on/off will surely kill the ballasts at the very least, if not, the expensive bulbs as well.
