Alarm on the X5 2004 3.0

My brothers Acura Integra got broken into last night and they stole the amp and boom-box ect. I told him to put an alarm so its his fault....

So this got me wandering about my X5 the other day I rocked it with the alarm activated, but still the it did'nt go off....??? So is it only after someone trys jimming it or braken a window will the aralm go off? can't you make it more sensitive?

OEM alarms don't normally have exterior sensors. So even if you rock it or hit the car, the alarm won't go off. I believe the X5's alarm only has break entry feature and interior motion sensors.

So Break Entry means unless someone breaks the window or enters the alarm won't go off...so the damage is done by the time the alarm goes off...

Did you guys intstall a exterior alarm?

That's pretty much what it does. I don't think there is an oem alarm out there that has exterior sensors. I'm not sure if you can add that to the X5. I don't think it's advisable to put an aftermarket alarm either. I would talk with a local car stereo/alarm.

I thought the alarm has a tilt sensor, i.e for the times when someone steals the wheels. I believe the owner's manual should say what parts of the vehicle are monitored.

modern BMW alarms have tilt sensors. The owners manual says this for my '06 but since yours is a facelift too I assume we have the same alarm system.

The tilt sensor is located on the passenger side near the windshield, probably under the hood according to this diagram.
