DIY Help

Hey All,

If anyone read my earlier post, last week, my girlfriend backed the X into a neighbor's trashcan. The rear plastic cladding over the license plate bulb assembly was broken in two. I had to order the entire assembly, including the rear hatch release button. The assembly has been painted and it's ready for install. I've searched the forum for help on removing the existing assembly and replacing it with the new one, but haven't had any luck. Does anyone know where I could find a DIY for such an install? Thanks, I'm just trying to keep from paying the dealer's labor cost. Thanks for any help.

There should just be 4 phillips head screws you need to remove. It comes off very easily.

Other than removing a few screws, are there any electrical connections I should know about? I'm only wondering because of the rear hatch release sensor. Thanks

After removing the 4 scres you'll see the electrical connector. Just unplug it from the old and plug it into the new.

FYI...They are torx screws on mine, not phillips. If memory served me right, there is only one electrical connector, which can be disconnected easily.

Thanks for the info, my X has the torx screws too. Is there a specific amount of torx recommended or just until they're tight? With the electrical connection, do I need to disconnect the battery before removing the sensor? Thanks.

No need to disconnect the battery. Tighten the screws until they are tight, but don't over tighten them or you will strip the plastic.
