Nav Map Icon
What does the little blue bullseye represent on the nav map pictured below?
When I was at Tijan's getting my window regulator fixed, we drove his co-worker home and these blue bulleyes were all over the map! http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...blonde4/X5.jpg |

Those are usually the icons for whatever you searched last. So if you serached shopping malls- you will see shopping cart icons, if you searched for gas stations you will will see gas pump icons and so on.. Don't remember what that icon is for. RTFM. ;) Should have posted in NAV forum. ;) :)
|
I posted it in the Nav Forum, but no one answered. :saad:
Yo, Tijan -- :rtfm: |

The only thing I can think off is maybe he has some other piece of software programmed into it to pick up speed cameras or unless they're previous destinations he's been too before or saved addresses as that one in the photo is on a road... unless you drive to one of the locations to see whats there - anyway I'm puzzled now to be honest!
|
Ask him what he searched for last.
|
I'm pretty sure those are "city centers".

Seriously, what was the last thing he did a search for? Answer that and you will have answered your question.

Does it take a Super Hero to solve the mystery

The icon is for displaying PARKING :) It's one of the options in the "information on location/destination" area.

My blue bullseyes represent City Halls. St. Louis County has about 50 smaller cities and municipalities. I see these every 4 to 5 miles.
I actually drove right to one :genius: and it landed me at the front door of a City Hall for that city. |
My blue bullseyes represent rest areas.
Cheers for clearing that up for us 'SuperGreg' |

Even going to a search category will trigger that. I bet he or someone else did so without realizing it.
|
He said that he and Jenn would drive around trying to figure out what they were, and they were in random areas along the street. :dunno:
|
When I want icons to go away, I just do a search for BMW service centers. Since they are few and far between where I live, I rarely have to bother with seeing an icon on the screen.
|
So it makes sense, the bulls-eyes are the locations you last searched for.?.?
|
When I initially put in a search for information on car parks/rest areas the bullseye appreared but when I searched for petrol stations little pumps appreared everyhere as well as the bullseye... I reckon the bullseye has a different identity with each country.

On my E92, they represent a "Downtown Area." What exactly defines a downtown area, I do not know. They've shown up on my map in some very random places.. For example, at home, a cluster of houses along a certain section of road shows up as a downtown area, but it clearly isn't.

I was led to believe that the bullseyes' are the mobile phone repeater stations that the nav programs and GPS use to triangulate your position.
As they are generally small and placed on top of buildings, they can be anywhere on top of a town hall or restaurant etc... Cheers |
That was my initial understanding of that too that they were symbolising a sub-station or tx. mast/repeater station but I can't imagine one of those smack bang in the middle of a row of houses..

We thought maybe they were fire hydrants, but there weren't any where the bulleyes were. :dunno: |
