Is Rear Climate Control Independent of the Front Climate Control?

Okay I have a silly question but maybe I am missing something here. I am under the assumption that the rear climate control should be independent of the front climate control. This being the case I thought that when the boys are trying to freeze me out of the vehicle I could turn my heat on to counteract the freezing air coming from the front. All I got when I put the dial all the way to the red and turned the fan on was more cold air.

Is this system really supposed to be independent of the front? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Only the blower speed is independent from the front. The front controls choice between heat/AC.

Well that is the goofiest thing ever. Why even put a dial for hot and cold if it doesn't adjust anything?

Maybe it works like the mixing control on the center vents on the dash???

Yes, the heat/cold control and the blower speed control is independent from front control. I can make the rear to blow warm air while the front is blowing cold air. However, you cannot shut the rear down while the front is on.

Thanks for this information. When I called the dealership to find out, they couldn't give me a good answer. His explanation was that he thought it pulled in outside air for the hot/cold settings. However, in the owner's manual it states that the temp control works when the fan is turned on. I am getting no change in temp using the temp control with the fan on high.

Thanks again!!
