New X5, how much to pay and who to buy from?
 

I posted this over on bimmerfest as well, I hope nobody minds the cross-post.

I am in the market for an X5 4.4, pretty loaded. The sticker on the build that I want is 62,695 MSRP and the invoice is 57,300 for a delta of 5,395. This particular order combination appears to be a pretty common build, as I have been to 4 dealers and all had several built like this on their lots.

I have very good credit, so I expect that they'll have no difficulty getting the lease bought by BMWFS.

My questions are:

1) What (expressed in relation to invoice) is a good deal on this car? I'm a pretty solid negotiator--I do my homework and I have always managed to get very good deals in the past. That said, this would be my first BMW and so I'm a bit unsure as to what a "good deal" is on this brand.

2) I plan to do the 39 month / 15k lease. The buy rate is .00075 but the lowest quoted MF I've heard is .00100. Does any BMW dealer sell at the buy rate?

3) I live in Orange County, CA so there are several dealers in my immediate area and many more a relatively short drive away. I'm more than willing to make that drive if the dealer makes it worth my while. Does anyone have any recommendations for So Cal BMW stores?

Also, this is a great board--the BMW community as a whole seems pretty saavy, and the X5 in particular seems to have a limitless modification potential. I have a sneaking suspicion I will be spending more time on this forum than I should.

I recently moved to AZ from OC. I heard nothing but good things about Long Beach BMW with respect to aggressive pricing. Irvine BMW is where I bought my X5. I got the price via Autobytel and they matched it. I never even went to the dealer. They delivered the car to my driveway.

I emailed the closest 8 dealers and 4 of them responded with their best price within 48 hours. I called the two lowest ones back and negotiated a little more off, went in and ordered the car. Rather painless as compared to prior new car shopping experiences. Have fun and welcome to the Board.

This is a really good time to make deals. I am on east coast in virginia but I negotiated a deal for a 2005 X5 4.4i to Invoice +$500 and the dealer told me upfront that he is marking up the money factor by .0004 which is the maximum allowed so that brought the money factor to .00115 - I then put 4 extra security deposits down to bring the money factor down by .00005 x 4 = .0002 so in the end I got a money factor of .00095 - I am pretty sure you could get a better money factor to start off with but since I had already negotiated hard on the price, I wasn't about to loose the deal for $30-$40/month - I called 4-5 other dealers and they just couldn't even match it - one dealer told me that I better buy it before my dealer changes their mind. I paid ~$1,500 over invoice at the time, but that was Nov'2001 :D

Thanks. Given that the E53 itteration is at the end of its lifecycle, I'm guessing I can do a bit better almost 4 years later.

For some reason, nobody was willing to do anything less than +$2000 over invoice last year when I bought mine...and there are plenty of dealers here in southern cal. Asseal in Monrovia was the worst. They didn't even budge on MSRP...wonder how they stayed in business :dunno:

I guessed you need to catch a dealer at the end of the month that needs to fill their quotas to get a great deal. Good Luck shopping. It's an awesome vehicle...even for a 6-years old design!

Definitely start at invoice and work your way up. I live in San Diego and had been looking for an X5 4.8is for about three months with no dealers in the area willing to deal on the price (all had either black or titanium X5's). I really wanted an Imola Red with the cream interior all along. I got lucky, though. I was on business in Washington, DC and visited a BMW dealer there that had both an Imola Red and Lemans Blue X5 4.8's. Bottom line is that I saved about 5K off of MSRP and had the Imola Red car shipped home. The dealer here still has the same 4.8 on their lot that I saw in May. They seem happy to wait for the "right" buyer who'll walk in and pay sticker. It blows me away that they're losing business to dealers almost 3000 miles from San Diego. However, is you're looking for a 4.4, I was told by dealers that they're running specials now. I am sure that you can get a good deal---but, negotiate hard and, if possible, have your own (non-BMW financing) if buying, or lease through a credit union which generally have good lease rates. Thanks for the reply, and congratulations on the 4.8. That's a trick car and pretty rare in Imola Red. You're unlikely to get lost in the crowd with it to be sure.
