Tailgate pops open
 

This evening after getting into my X5 and putting it into reverse the tailgate popped unlocked for no reason. I pushed the open button from inside and got out and closed it shut. I put the car back in reverse and started to back up more and the tailgate unlocked again. I got out and shut it again.

Has anyone else had the tailgate unlock for no reason?

it happened all the time last winter on my x. next thing i know some other weird stuff started to happen too, went to dealer got my battery replaced, reset the computer, flash the software. everything went back to normal.

Oh, yeah! This is a common problem with early model X5s. There are a number of threads here on this problem with a number of different solutions. Check them out, hopefully one will work for you. Mine was the most expensive, as I had to replace the latch because the license plate lights kept filling with water on my 2001. That also cured my hatch from popping open. Ususally it happened right after I started up the car and within the first 100 feet.
