Thinking of trading in 3.0 2002 5-spd for a 2005 6-speed, thoughts?...

I am having thoughts of trading in my 02 X5 3.0 5-speed for an 05 with a 6 speed and lower miles I saw at a local dealer...... Do you guys think the newer 05's have significantly improvement in quality and reliability?

My current X5 already left me stranded a few weeks ago from a faulty engine harness... It's had all sorts of electrical and mechanical gremlins.... I figure a newer 05 will correct that... My 2002 is still under CPO until July 2008..

Thoughts?

I bought an 05 3.0i Petrol X5 Sport fully loaded recently and I have to say there has been alot of improvement in quality and reliability compared to the older(pre 04) models. You may not notice them but I'm sure if a dealer was to point them out to you, you'd see the differernce for yourself. Are you driving a 5 speed manual at the moment and thinking of going for another manual with the upgraded 6 speed gearbox??

Yes... going from 5-speed manual and would like to trade it in for a 6-speed 2005 I saw....

What do you think would be a good trade-in value for my 2002? It is pristine w/ 67,500 miles CPO until July 2008... Just had CV boots replaced last week..

Petrol or Diesel ?? sunroof/sat nav/wood or silver trim??

By the way do you find the 3.0i petrol a bit under-powered??

Petrol... we do not have diesel here in the U.S... it has sunroof, no nav, dark wood trim from the premium package....

I would say/estimate you should be getting at least $50,394 for it with a full service history and it's been well kept and looked after through out.. try and sell it privately if you can because as I'm sure you know the dealers won't offer you much unless you spend sometime going around the forecourts and getting the best price..

Not to arm wrestle, but there is no '02 that will get more than half of
that "$50Gs" here in the US. Used Xs are like old Chevys and ubiquitous...

Kendall, I'd say go for it if the Stlr will give you a decent trade and he
will "CPO" the newer X. I'd like to swap our '01 5 spd for a clean 6 spd/sport,
etc., but I have never seen a 6 speed for sale on any BMW lot.

I drove by our local Stlr, Fletcher BMW in Asheville, NC yesteday,
dropping my daughter at the airport and we stopped and walked around
their lot. They were closed as it was Sunday, and they must have had
3 dozen used X5s and a dozen+ used X3s; not a one was a manual, lol!

I think this local stlr is choking on used Xs, fwiw.

Good luck on your 6 speed hunt and let us know the outcome.

Kendall what trade-in $ figure did you get on your X at the dealer?

Thanks, I'm thinking if they offer $17k on trade and bargain down to $34k for a CPO 2005 6-speed w/ 29.5k miles they have on the lot, I would pull the trigger as long as the 05 is in excellent shape...

Well.. I was just comparing it to an 02 X5 here with a similiar value and I suppose I didn't take into account all the taxes and VRT we(unfortunately) pay here but I do believe I could buy a fully loaded X5 in the US for half the cost of them here... but best of luck and I hope you get a decent price for it and do good deal on an 05 model with the 6 speeds..
