DSC / ABS / BRAKE LIGHT ON, CHANGE THE BATTERY?
Hello all,
this page has helped me immensely with my 2000 x5 4.4 and i thank you all for that. Today i was driving and out of the blue the dsc/abs/brake lights all came on. I have read through some posts about it and i see a few potential problems that would need to be handled by the dealer. recently, (about 2 months ago) the alternator died on me and i had it replaced. who thinks changing the battery would be a good idea? i am just hoping to avoid a trip to the dealer. how likely is it that a battery that is showing no other signs of wear could be the culprit? this is a 2000 x5, i dont know if/when the battery was replaced i tried the lock to lock thing, no dice. when i restart the truck it the lights are off, they come on after driving for a while thanks for your help!! |
get a code scanner and see what it spits out at you. Its probably a speed sensor, but it could be the whole computer needs to be replaced

im not getting anything with my peake code reader. but i believe that you need a different (read more expensive) code reader for dsc issues.
im thinking the battery could be an issue since i had alternator trouble. but with 118k anything is possible. |

I had my DSC/ABS lights go on and the dealer replaced the steering sensor. I've also read somewhere that it could also be caused by a bad wheel sensor.

while playing with the truck to try and spot any trends, i noticed that the lights seem to come on when i pick up speed and dont seem to be affected by steering inputs. i checked the speedo and the cruise so i guess i can rule out the rear sensors. replaced front drivers side abs sensor, cant find one on the passenger side. no luck.
i purchased a speed sensor, im going to try that next. |
