Annoying gearchanges

Hi all,

Recently bought a 2002 X5 3.0 L petrol. 120k on the clock and drives beautifully, I do have an annoying bug though, and was wondering if there's any advice out there.

When starting from cold, once in "Drive" I depress the accelerator, the rev counter climbs and the vehicle does'nt move, for about 5 -10 sec . Any idea what could be causing it. Is this Normal ?

Further to this gear changes from 1st to fourth is realtively smooth, changefrom 4th to 5th is coupled with a thud of some sort.

I'm really hoping this is'nt to serious. Any advice out there ?
