What's wrong with this deal

So I am looking at buying a 2005 X54.4i. Great condition. Two little areas in side the car that make it seem even slightly used. Has only 13,000 miles on it. Nav, premium package. Nice vehicle. The catch is, they are only asking $38950. For the area, that is about $6 to 8K to little. What should I look for. I had it out yesterday for about a 4 hour test drive. Flawless. It's almost too good to be true. It is at a dealership .

All repliies are appreciated.

its about right. but look for sprayed panels. look inside door jams and doors edges.

Wow! That seems like a really good deal, considering I looked at one at a dealership and found it to be high 40's, then found one with the same specs as the dealerships (the ones you listed also) from a sub company for low 40's. Still has warranty and everything. Sounds like you would be getting an awesome deal!

I'm guessing it's at a non-BMW dealer? If so, they probably just offered the person trading it in a ridiculously low number and the dealer doesn't want a BMW product on their lot taking focus off their product maybe? I picked up mine from an exotic car dealer that thought that X5's weren't "nice" enough to put on the lot with lambos and ferraris, so he made me a smoking deal too.

NOVAX5 is right, when something sounds too good to be true, you might wanna do some more visual inspection urself. look closely at the gaps, chipped paints (from body shop). if its really clean, then congratulations, you got urself a good deal...

Take it to a competent BMW mechanic and have a PPI Done... (Pre-Purchase Inspection) It costs about $150, but the mechanic will uncover any problems are accidents in the car... Definitely worth the peace of mind...

That price is not off the wall for a non BMW dealer like Lexus who got the car in on trade and just wants to get it off their lot...

How about a country-fied Ford dealer?

That sounds like a pretty good deal. Just make sure it is not a manufacturer's buyback. I have seen a lot of those hitting the market lately. Also run a carfax on it. Good luck.

Does it have any options?

X5Dawg 09-13-2007 10:44 AM

Ford dealer definitely doesn't want that X on the lot, not to mention with gas prices they know the SUV market sucks right now. Still won't hurt to have inspection and run Carfax report.
