Highway 88 is a BMW test ground! The elevation is between 7000-8000 ft and there are plenty of passing zones. It was a great ride. I also drove a few graded dirt roads to hit some secret fishing spots. The X handled very good in all aspects.

Don't go too much offroading, your X seems to be quite low.
Those mountains are good place to see if you have all the horses still under the hood. In summer I had a rental Dodge Magnum and we drove from Bay area across Yosemite and then to north towards Bodie, chost town, it was too much for the Dodge, it just couldn't keep the speed up when going up the mountains and I missed my X a lot :D
but it was already on its' way to Finland in a container ship.
