2003 E53 Bluetooth retrofit
 

Hi Guys,

If I have done my research correctly, this is going to be quite an expensive update to the car (I'm picking up on Saturday).

The seller advertised it with Bluetooth but on closer inspection it's an aftermarket Nokia Bluetooth kit. It's wired into the sound system but I dont think it will give me the phone option on the 16:9 TV/NAV.

Strangely though the sterering wheel (it's a 3.0d Sport), has the telephone buttons, but theres no exidence of the mike being fitted in the roof-lining. I've seen these for around £30

What would be really nice if it was just a case of buying the (high-performence) microphone (with wiring just ticked away in the roof), and a ULF module to fit above the NAV DVD player and again with the wiring just tucked away. These seem to com up on ebay for around £50.

But there's probably much more to it. For example, to get the voice activation - which generation do I need. And is the a £250 box I need somewhere.

Any advice woud be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Have a quick look at the top section of your centre arm rest, open the lid, is there anything there?? EG: A slot down the middle thats empty with a button at the top. The after market nokia unit maybe was fitted because there was no centre cradel available to fit the previous owners type of phone, so it possible you may have factory bluetooth which is very easy to spot if you lift the top section of the arm rest and you will see a small button that looks like the one on the steering with the face and voice sign. Hope that make sense??

That was quick !!! From memory there's nothing in the armrest pocket. And no microphone (other than the Nokia one sticking out of the roof).... The Nokia kit is just bluetooth I think with a harness to the ISO connectors of the X5. Not 100% but AFAIK there's no comms pack on the options list...

If its not on the options list and nothing under the arm rest then yeah, it could be a costly retro fit.
