Too frequent oil changes
I seem to remember an input from someone some time ago, from some kind of a lubrication professional, that too frequent oil changes was not all that good. It was someting about the oil needing some time to do its work, i.e. cleaning and treating the metal, etc. Does someone recall this? I have searched for hours but didn't find it. It was a very thourough education in lubrication dynamics that i'd like to find again.
Greatful for any tips. |

Pasted below is the excellent Lube 101 info post, done by
"Withidl", a very knowledgeable poster, imo. Other than a waste of good oil and money, I don't know what "too frequent" means and if it is a practical concern... Imo, changing quality synthetic oil more often than every 6,000-7500 miles is probably a waste and overdone, and offers very little benefit. Some A-O nut cases on some car forums continue to beat their chests over the fact that they dump theirs every 3K, but it seems like a waste to me. I do dump my M'cycles' oil more frequently than my cars, but hey...that's different, lol! My Qtr's up. GL,mD http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/m...t=frequent+oil |

Most race teams change all lubricants after every race. I can not imagine how fresh oil is anything but good for any engine. However changing oil too soon is a waste. I do mine every 10K.

Oil does not treat metal like some marketing graphic on a shampoo commercial.
It is either on the parts preventing friction and being subjected to heat, or not. |
Thanks for the great link Motordavid. I guess frequent changes is of no harm them.
And thanks for the very constructive input fast4d, i learned a lot. |
Lets take another look at MD's statement:..........
Now we have to ask the question; What are frequent changes? Quote:
