I want to add Voice Recognition
 

I have a 2004 4.8IS with a build date of 08/2004. A year ago I had the dealership install the updated module that has Bluetooth, BMW Assist, and Voice Recognition for the Bluetooth phone functions only, all built into the same module.

I'd like to add the VR functions of the Navigation and the Voice Memo/Note features to my already existing Bluetooth functions at the same time keeping my BMW Assist that I subscribe to.

I've seen a lot of vendors that sell the newest latest 13th generation module to replace mine. Theirs has it all and I think I read that it is not available from BMW here in the states. However none mention the ability for me to keep BMW Assist.

I almost pulled the trigger on buying a used VR module that is a plug and play via a blue plug located somewhere under the factory CD changer (which I can't find) from a member here that used it for all the VR functions of the Phone, Nav, and Voice Memo/Note in his preface lifted X5. Like I said, I couldn't find this blue plug and other owners of 2006 X5's could not find this plug either which would make this VR module useless to me.

I talked with the parts department at my local BMW dealership and, well you can figure the rest out. Honestly I feel like every time I go to them for answers, I usually end up educating them on something.

Please know that I am pretty sure I don't have or can't find this blue plug for a VR module which older set ups seem to reportedly have. I don't have a Pairing button nor a cradle of any sorts. I do however have a button on my steering wheel to activate my VR for my phone functions only which I use everyday.

Any insight to this issue would be so appreciated and feel free to correct anything I may have said that is inaccurate or ask me to clarify anything.

I have a '04 4.4 no Nav, I added the '05 Bluetooth, BMW assist in one unit and the VR works fine with the phone.
I don't have Nav but suspect it should work with the Nav..??

X5Strap, I believe I have the same unit as you. You would think that the VR works with the Nav but it doesn't for me. It could be operator error however I don't get a response to any of the commands for the Nav. What prompts me to think that I don't have the functions of the VR for the Nav and Voice Memo/Note is because when I give the "HELP" command, the VR responds with options for the Bluetooth phone functions only.

Does anyone have an X5 of any year or model that has Navigation, Bluetooth, and BMW Assist, as well as Voice Recognition functions of the Navigation, Bluetooth Phone, and Voice Memo/Note features? If so, please chime in!

In talking with a service adviser, he mentioned that only a tech would be able to help me out. My car goes in Friday morning for the tail lights being replaced under warranty. I'll see if the tech can answer my questions then.
