BIG tires!

Got my new Bridgestone Blizzaks mounted on my 17" rims all ready for winter. They're 265/70/17 and they do fit in my wheel-wells. I was concerned that they may rub so I mounted one in front and it clears OK. They look huge and for sure fill up the wheel wells nice. I'll post pics as soon as the snow flies which shouldn't be long up here in Northern Wisconsin! We had 21 degrees on the 15th of Sep so it's gettin cold already. We had snow that week too but it didn't stick. Winters comin!!!

That tire size is going to throw your speedo way off.

Lambeau 09-27-2007 08:36 AM

I have 295/45/20's on now so my speedometer is already off. It's just a matter of knowing how far it's off. It'll keep the R's & miles down with better mileage too.

Hell, I have factory spec tires and my speedo is off!!

Hey Lambeau,
I really like the pics of those big tars you have on your 20s and those big 17 dedicated snows should do well too, even if they are a tad wider
than std 17.

Charts below showing rolling size diffs and speedo diff. Looks like your
big 20s are already showing ~4 mph less than stock, and the winter
big snows should show ~ 2 mph less than your 20s. Tossing that all
into the calcs, with the already optimistic speedos we have and you
get: who the hell knows, lol! But, definitely lower rpms at speed!

You're right MD, my speedo is about 4 mph off with the big 20's. I'll take 2 more off too with the Blizzaks!!! So, if my odometer is underreading 6 miles for every 60 travelled, and if I put on 6,000 miles I'll only show 5,400 miles, is that correct or close to it?

motordavid 09-27-2007 02:05 PM

Lambeau,
Here's a couple points to ponder: I recall reading a few posts that
were adamant about the Odo not being "off ~6" like the speedo is.

So, you may not realize any "less" mileage via the odo...

2nd point on the arith., my version of gozintas:

-Your big summer 20s were/are about 4 mph less
than stock 20 tires, or ~6% less than stock in
terms of tire revs per mile.
-Your big winter tars are about ~2 mph less than
your current big summer tires, and about ~4% less revs per mile.

Put that all together with the very optimistic BMW speedos and
I think you can drive about 80 and still be under the radar, lol!

Way cool. I put 245 Blizzaks on my 17" rims, they are a bit wider than the stock 235 size. I never thought about the 265/70 option. I'll have to consider that when this set wears out.
I just hate having to take the 19s off for the winter, they look so much cooler! But, based on our weather, I'd say the Blizzaks are going on within a couple of weeks.

Post pics!!!!!
