Transmission flush with machine
 

Has anyone tried to flush there transmission with a flush machine I have done manny at work but not on an x 5 and has anyone used dextron3 instead of the esso fluid ????? I looked it up in our books and they say to use multi vehicle dextron3

I would not use a flush with the mindset that something may get dislodged and mess up the tranny.

Why not do a pan drop and filter change.
Sump should be 9 qts and a pan drop with new fluids should net you around 7 qts of fresh fluid.

I would use a *fluid* that STATES that is is Esso 71141 compatiable.

I've done 2 drain bolts drain/fill and just recently did a pan drop/filter and used Amsoil Synthetic ATF. It does appear to be smoother than with the 2 other previous drain bolt drain/refills I've done.

A flush machine will drain all of the fluid through the cooler lines and pump clean fluid back in to the pan

I don't have any comment on the use of a flush machine, other than if you are putting new fluid in, the filter needs to be changed also.
The 4.4 liter tranny requires Esso fluid. Can't use Dex III in that tranny. The tranny used behind the 3.0 liter may call for Dex III, can't remember.

My parts guy told me to look on the pan for a green sticker. It has the fluid part number on it. He said they used three different types of fluid and it has to match if you are just doing a filter fluid change.

A lot of sludge and contaminates is at the bottom of the transmission pan and the four magnets there. To just change the fluid does not remove these contaminates and may cause problems as the new fluid may dislodge them. If you are going to change fluid, I would recommend that you change the filter, clean the pan and magnets, and match the fluid to the OEM type installed.

Coolant was leaking into the transmission because of a breach in the transmission cooler

If the '01 has a 3.0L engine then you can use synth. DexIII.

The same with my car 01 X5 3.0i. I have to buy it from the dealer
