waffle removal
 

Alright guys I'm gonna bake my headlights and open them up so I can remove those ugly waffles on my 01 sport package non-xenon. Anyone recomend any kind of gloves to wear besides oven mits so I don't burn my self? Any suggestions?

Oh and I was also wondering if there is a special way to remove that small amber part in the corner of my lenses. Do I just take an object and scrape the amber off?

As for the small amber, you will have to dremel it off and then sand the rest to make it smooth.

Well taking them off the oven isn't that bad...When taking out my headlights from the oven, it wasn't that hot where you can't toch it. As long as you don't touch the glue you'll be fine.lol

I used a heat gun... worked good for me. Also, re: amber corners - just remove the entire piece and install IvisiLight bulbs. http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...d-details.html

I used both oven mitts to remove the light then just kept one on to hold the light still while I worked the screwdriver to open it. If you open the headlight quick enough there will be a silver piece behind the amber and you can try and pull it off. On both of mine I did that and it came right off with no dremel and left no residue. It's just glued on.

If you have not done your headlights yet here are some recomendations and reminders. On the outer side of your headlight near the orange there is a screw, right on the side. Remember to remove that, other wise they wont open and you'll waste more time. #2 leave the baking for at least a good 15 minutes so the glue is really soft and come apart easy. What happen once with mine is I took them out after like 8 minutes and the glue was really stringy and I got some on the chrome and it was a bitch to remove it. #3, Once they're open let them chill and completely cool down before you work on them, otherwise you risk making a mess of the heated glue and it'll get everywhere and it can get inside your headlights. And that's about all I had problems with. You're going to love it. It will look like a newer car. The second and third time I opened my headlights I didn't use oven mits, I just quickly pulled them open.

ttzcar is correct. DON'T GET ANY BLACK GLUE ON THE CHROME!
