for what purpose? cosmetic? functionality? skip it if you want to use it as a regular stepping board. and one more thing, this thing cost you around $320 + $70 shipping close to $400 while dealer sells you the real thing with archs and installation kit for $517. buy at dealer and you can either DYI or get a local indy shop to install it for $50. thats what i did. so with about $150 more you can have the real thing that has both look and functionality.

These look like crap.
Get the real ones from Morristown |
Didn't running boards come preinstalled on all X5s?

Note: most people think the standard black plastic trim under the doors are running boards, which they are NOT. Step on those and there goes your plastic trims! |

i got mine from bmw morristown, OEM running boards, $ 500 and change... |
Ummm, there was a whole other thread about these and many members bought them, including me. I've had nothing but compliments from my friends about them and I think they look great. And they are functional as well.
Here is the thread: http://www.xoutpost.com/group-buys/22...ched-them.html |

Here's pics from today. It's been raining so my car is a bit dirty - I did wipe that brake dust off for the pics tho.

looks great. Can you shoot the rear of it closer? How does it match up with the black fender?
|
|
Does it look out of place in person?
|
That gap does not look good. These are half the depth of OEM boards.
|
I don't think so. There is a a slight lip at each end but it fits the contour of the plastic below. One thing I'll say is that there was basically very little in install instructions so I spent time placing them before drilling the holes and mounting it. So it pays to have a blanket below in case you drop it.
I also thought the quality of the boards to be top notch and I like the brushed X5 logo on it. I paid $380 for mine (shipped) and I'm happy with the amount I spent for the look. I guess I thought the OEM was much more and the install scared me off. I can try to take some more pics in the morning with a better camera in the light. I was using my iPhone for these. (p.s. do you live on this board? :o) ) I know I do... |
I should mention that the boards are flush horizontally on the black plastic and also there is no gap between any surfaces at the edges.

Gee isn't it nice to have someone make smart remarks; I mean what's the point of saying "You must really like them"? I thought my taking the pictures, finding the link for the old group buy etc was the appropriate thing to do; isn't that the spirit of this board rather than dropping a ball of poo on someones head?
FWIW when I bought them there wasn't an OEM option that was priced at $370 available. I searched eBay and the local dealer for OEM and it was much more than what I paid. I wish there had been an option at the time but there wasn't. New OEM running boards are listed on eBay for $535, $620, & $650 right now. That's about what I found in January of this year when I bought mine. |
Not trying to hurt you in any way and nothing wrong with your boards. Wish the OEM had X5 stamped on them. Like you, I also did the home work and looked high and low to find the right price for OEM boards. And I have since helped several members here get the OEM boards at that price. Its all good.

You can't get OEM running boards for $370. If so I would have jumped on them a long time ago
|
I contacted Paul Miller bmw and they quoted me $795!!!
|
I also just called paul miller and they gave me 795. I thought it can be bought for 370. If so, who do we speak to there?
Thanks, Alex |
The accessory catalog page 6 has list price of $725 with part # 51 71 0 017 315 ? They have a 25% discount coupon in current issue of Roundel mag. You can tell them when you call on phone.

Boards for 4.8is
Thank you, do you have the part number for the flares, I have a 4.8is 2006 and from what I understand there some flares i need to replace in addition to the running boards.
Thanks, Alex |
flared arches for r/b are:
Flares, rear left 51 71 7 051 035 Flares, rear right 51 71 7 051 036 Flares, front left 51 71 7 051 037 Flares, front right 51 71 7 051 038 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=FA93&mospid=47749&btnr=51_5052& hg=51&fg=95 |
I have the exact running boards from the first post and actually paid $10 more than what they are asking now. I purchased them last November and the install was as easy as it gets. One year later and so far so good. If I could have purchased a OEM set even near what I paid for these I would have but they were over $700 installed even last year. Good luck.
If you view my personal web page I have some close up shots of the running boards. http://www.xoutpost.com/userpage-user8155.html |
I can't decide if i like the ends or not?
|
Can I install only rear flares or do I need front also?
For my 4.8

25% off from from $725 is about $543. (FWIW - Morristown has them for $525 right now.) If I could get OEM for $370 I'd be all over it. Please let me know how to get that price. |
Not to hijack the post. I plan on going the Morristown route with OEM, my question is does anyone have any good indy shop recommendations in the NYC area (brookly, queens, etc).
Thank you all. |
Can anyone tell me what I need to install the brushed aluminum running board?
I have a 4.4 US with the black flares and black running boards. The catalog I have says they are incompatible. |
i have these as well except mine don't say X5 at the end. a year later & so far so good.
