The chances the X5 will rollover on flat land due to sharp steering wheel movements is not very high because it does have stability control, which for the most part, will keep you shiny side up. The 2003 and older X5, while it does not have a panoramic sunroof, has an older stability control system, which is more likely to tip(which is still very rare). BMW SUVs aren't like the Ford Explorer from 2000, a roof crush test shouldn't be an issue now, I can assume all SUVs will perform to standards. But, if you are looking for the most possible safety, go for the new E70.

If you want the absolute latest in safety, obviously the 2007+ E70s have the latest "stuff", although I still don't like how the hood is made from (IMO) flimsy material to save weight.

That pic of the rolled-over X5 doesn't prove anything. Of course, a larger moonroof is not going to be as structurally safe as one w/o such an option, but I'm sure it all falls well within what BMW deems to be safe and appropriate. You will enjoy the huge moonroof WAYYYY more than whatever peace of mind you might get from a smaller moonroof. In fact, I find it hard to get into any car that lacks such a roof.

I don't know how often you think you're going to get into a crash, but honestly it's not something I'd be paranoid over. The point of buying a BMW is enjoying the drive. Their designs are safe, no question.

I never think about how many airbags our X3 has. But I get huge enjoyment in our X3 flinging it around 90-degree corners (no one around) at 55mph. DSC off. On wet pavement. :driver:

Yeah, I know I'm over compensating in the arena of safety...

Mostly the car will be driven by the Mrs. w/ the little ones, and so the requirements + the stress on safety is not just me.

I presumed that 2007 would have the latest greatest safety stuff, but I had read other comments about how BMW started using cheaper materials...

Thanks again
