How do you get a tax break on a "large" SUV? :confused:

04 vs 05 X5
 

I have a '04 4.4 X5, there were many changes to the '04 4.4. New engine and transmission plus about 120 other things. The only difference between the '04 and '05 4.4 X5 is the '05 has blue tooth and BMW Assist combo. I added that to my '04 and it works great.
The only addition to the '06 is Xenon lights are standard.
Best value is a clean '04..

it goes by weight and the 4.4 just makes it. basically it's a loophole in the tax code. google will have a lot of info.

btw- i don't think you can do it anymore, i think that the law was changed.

Do these diffs hold true between '04 4.8 and '05 4.8 as well?
 

I'm new to X5 world and don't even have my X5 yet and already this forum has been so helpful it's amazing - what a phenomenal resource.

Anyway, I've been X5 hunting for several months now, trying to find the perfect dream machine and an '04 4.8 just came up and I searched to see the diff's between the '04 and '05's and easily found this thread. I was originally going to hold out for an '05 but these posts make it sound like a late '04 is virtually identical to the '05's and probably will cost me less, but I'm wondering if there are any other changes between the year models when it comes to the 4.8is. (?)

Any info?

LOL - what came first the chicken or the egg? Nice - i remember when i was waiting for my x5, took me 3mths - a dealer friend of mine went to auctions to get it for me. i think i'll def get a 4.8 next time around.

I believe '04 PDC was optional, and beginning with '05, it was standard (at least for 4.4i).

Actually DKL, you're missing even less than you think on the "dynamic" xenons, because they only move right, NOT left. That's so you don't unintentionally blind oncoming drivers when the road bends to the left.
I double-checked this with my 2006 X5 against my white garage door. The lights will not steer left.

They turn both right AND left. I tried it too at my garage door and you can see the proof in my signature (animated gif I created from my video).

This may have been discussed before, but adaptive bi-xenons only turn right when the vehicle is at a standstill. When the vehicle is in motion, they swivel left and right. When the vehicle is in reverse, or the headlight switch is manually set to the low-beam position, the adaptive function is not active.

Don't mean to nitpick, but your animated GIF just confirms my point that the Xenons are ONE-directional. You can see them steering right of centerline, they will come back to centerline, but they will not steer to the left of centerline. You don't have to take my word for it. It's described in the adaptive headlamp section of both the 2005 and 2006 manuals (on this homepage). I was pretty surprised by this also, but BMW claims it's a "safety" feature. I'm only talking about what came STOCK on the 4.4i for those model years....it may be possible to over-ride this feature somehow and make them swivel left of center, but I doubt the dealers would agree to it. You'd need to do it yourself or take it to an after-market shop.
