Ignition question

 Just curious to know how long do you guys wait b4 starting the engine after you insert the key, How many beeps?

UCrewX5 07-29-2005 08:27 PM

Beeps? :dunno:

I don't wait at all. Insert key, turn key, start ignition....

DINANM3 07-29-2005 08:27 PM

i start it right up. Why would you wait?

Not sure what you mean about beeps...when starting cold in am, or after a long sit, I turn key on and wait to hear a "click", which comes about 4-6 secs. after that key turn. By that time, I've heard the 'puters load up and it's time to go. I do the same in the Vette and the pos CRV. GL,md

Those "beeps" are the ones telling you to wear your seatbelt.

I actually don't know where i heard this from but I was told to insert the key turn it to the 2 position and wait 4 the engine to scan 4 pbs in the system b4 firing the engine :dunno:
I guess i must was dreaming all these years... the funny part is my wife kept asking why i was doing this all this time and I could'n t answer till we picked up an E46 4 her and i rrealize that she was not waiting long enough b4 starting the engine....
But I guess i'll never admit to her that this was the fruit of my imagination! ;)

Well, as I posted, I wait for that 4-6 sec "wind up" sound the 'puter does...my idiot salesguy suggested I do this when I took del. way back in 9-'01. Most of the Vette guys suggest the same thing; so I turn key, watch the dashboard light up, hear the 'puter buzzing and, then turn key to ignite. So, we are doing it based on habit and waiting for the electrons to flow, lol! BR,md

The only thing i can think of is that the fuel pump would/might get primed if you wait.

I generally wait for the steering wheel to settle in and turn off the A/C....Phil
