Michelin Diamaris stiff?
My new (to me) 2004 4.4 Sport has the 19" wheels with brand new Michelin Diamaris tires. My BMW Factory Tech friend tells me the Diamaris have a VERY stiff sidewall, which it appears I am feeling in the ride.
Has anyone had the Diamaris' on their X5 and then switched to another tire? How did the ride of the Diamaris compare to other tires you have used? Thanks! |
Diamaris by far has the best handling over other ones. If you can live with harsh ride (also to me its not that harsh, its SPORTY) stick with diamaris!

Performance is painful....lose the stiffness, lose the performance.

If you want a cushy ride, the Sport 19" wheels are wrong for you. Trade them out for a set of 18".
Personally I didn't like the Diamaris' tread life, so I picked a tire with longer rating when I replaced them the 2nd time on my '00. |

Thanks Colin. |
I didn't like the Diamaris so i replace the Diamaris with Yokohama ADVAN S.T.! :)

Little vague, what didn't you like?
|
I went with Kumho Ecsta STX. Tread rating is like 420 I think, but they feel just as grippy as the Diamaris. Noise level is similar, maybe slightly less. Cost is less. Overall these get a pretty good average customer rating at tirerack.com, but I'm thinking next time I may go with Michelin Tour HP which also have good tread rating but are quieter I hear.

After having the Diamaris for a long time, I switched to the Yokohama Advan ST's and found that they are much better for handling, have a thicker sidewall, and longer tread life. I think they're also cheaper.

It still boils down to what KIND of driving you are doing - My Diamaris are nearing the wear nubs at ~30K miles. I'll most likely replace them when I get back to Idaho when they will have ~35K miles on them. The vast majority of my driving is interstate, so Diamaris perfectly fit my driving long distances at high speeds. If I were doing daily commuter driving, I'd probably want a softer ride with long lasting wear (and 4 identical tires all around). The Diamari is also a dry pavement tire, so if I lived in the rainy NW, I probably would look for a good wet pavement tire. Buying a "cool" tire is a waste of $ if it does not match your driving. Remember safety first and Rule #1, "Nobody gets hurt."

My stock 18 inch tires have load of rubber left after 34,000 miles.
They handle well and ride ok. |

Can someone post a pic of what exactly the "wear nubs" are? Where would I find them on my Michelin Energy MXVs? |

http://www.carbibles.com/images/treadbar.jpg Indicates 2/32th left and are usually found in multiple tread locations (outer/inner/middle). All DOT passenger tires should have wear bars. |
Michelin Diamaris
How about the Michelin Energy MXVs..... R these in the same league as the Diamaris ??????
