NEW here NEED you opinion

I am currently a 330ci owner and looking for a X5 which I always wanted. I found one but not sure if the price is right. Checked KBB but still want to know what you think

Its 2003 3.0 with 43K miles
One owner, all records
Grey with Black interior
All options:
Navigation, sport seats/steering wheel/leveling suspension/parking sensors/heated seats/xenons
The guy wants 26900 for it.

Is this a good price? How much should I offer.

I can pay his asking price but I dont want to owerpay....
Thanks.

Price seems high, IMO.

Any ideas where to start? what should I offer?

For some reason, KBB seems increasingly off. I just bought a 2004, and most the the X5's I seriously considered were thousands under KBB.

(FWIW - I recently bought a 2004 CPO X5 4.4 for about 8K under KBB. Before that I had purchased a 1995 BMW 540 M-Sport for about 7K under KBB and sold a 1988 M5 for $10K over KBB)

Here a couple of suggestions for determining a starting price:

1) Try Edmunds True Market Value. It is based more on actual sales price than what a vehicle "should" be worth. For the X5 you have listed private party is just over $24k - http://www.edmunds.com/apps/usedmatr...munds....4.1.*

2) Go on e-bay and do a search for 2003 X5 3.0's. Look at the "buy it now" prices for models most like yours. E-Bay prices often reflect the lower end of the market as far as dealer prices are concerned. If this one is private party, you can feel comfortable making an offer somewhat below what you find dealer's selling for on e-bay. (Doesn't mean it will be accepted, though, some sellers think KBB is some sort of mandate on pricing).

Good luck and remember the rule of used BMW shopping - "in the longrun it's less expensive to buy the best one you can find, not neccesarily the cheapest on you can find."

Excellent advice! You can also do an "Advanced Search" and click the "Completed Listings Only" to see where some X5's have sold.

You can always try the old "I really like your vehicle but I feel the price is a bit high. I can pay you xx,xxx so please keep my phone number and call me if you would like to sell it."

Make that number the real number you want to pay not a low ball that has a bit of upside room.

There are a lot of '03 3.0's out there! Take your time.....

As always.... Just my $.02!!

Save some more pennies and get a 2004, nicer lines revised front end..more standard items and less bugs. Plus a valvetronic motor in the V8 with more horsepower/torque.

:iagree:
If you can hold off untill early '08 you will greater discounts on '04's - an '04 will be a 4 yr old car (same car, psycological/valuation pricing difference).

Thanks all for your input. I am not really in a rush to buy X5 but I was excited when I found all the options I wanted in that caR - Navi, sport seats, Xenons and leveling suspension... I think it will be hard to find another used car with all that...???

Michelle 11-01-2007 01:26 PM

I agree with the advice from Wagner...get the '04.

You won't have any trouble finding what you want.

Hello Everyone,
Would you wait for Clean 2004 4.4 over a clean 2004 3.0 that was loaded and both Being CPO?
Thank you
Jim
