Some Important Questions
Hello all,
I am new here and had some basic questions. But before I ask; I have a 2001 X5 with the 4.4 and about 70k miles. Ok questions..... 1. I have read that I can use 0w40 Mobile 1 full synthetic. Is this ok to use in the hot Arizona sun, or would you recommend some other type of oil? Does it need a special filter? 2. If I park the X5 and come outside from letting it sit parked, it will lean to the right. As soon as I unlock the car with the keyfob, it starts to level itself out. What is going on? 3. A Service engine light came on today. P0492. I have read that it has to do with the secondary air pump. Where is that and how do I test it? Thanks, Jeff |

Many of the answere's you require can be found here. http://www.xoutpost.com/ For example regarding oil: The recommended installation is OEM http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/e...nce-guide.html Fault codes?.....Here http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/g...ighlight=P0492 Don't be afraid to use the search feature. It will save you a lot of time. |
Thanks for the info
I do not have a BMW dealership within 150 miles of me, so OEM is not an option; and the fault code I have says "Unknown code" according to the link you gave me.... Can anyone help me out here please? |
Kind of hard to help with 'unknown code' you need to get it to some BMW shop, doesn't have to be a dealer. Sounds like a comp glitch of some sort with the auto-leveling.

I have done some research on the p0492 code, and it mean secondary air system fault. Any ideas? And what is auto-leveling?
|
Going with your 2 question, I'm assuming your ride has auto-level, if not then it is not 'leveling out' when you click the key.

Hi, and welcome.
I would predict that soon you'll get the dreaded 'SELFLEVEL SUSP.INACT' message on the dash. Mine started out by just leaning (left) when parked. Then start the car and it straightened up (actually - maybe just unlocking it did it). When getting out of the car I hear hissing from the rear, and I guess thats the air going out of the airbag that I suspect has sprung a leak ! The worry is that although the car is able to pump air into the bags to keep it level while going along, I don't imagine that this is good for the pump to be working overtime. Not sure if I have that fault code, but the above error message comes and goes almost every day. Funny thing is, I don't notice much difference in the ride, maybe because it's a sport and running on 19s. Planning to get it checked out soon tho. Kev. |
