Rear Axle Carrier Rubber Mounting - help and advice need
 

Hi,

I've had a slight clunking noise from the rear of my car for some time, it was only apparent when pulling away from a junction.

I decided to have a look for the cause today and found that when the car was parked in neutral with the hand brake (emergency brake) off, I could "move" one of the rear wheels on its axis, i.e. it would move forward in the wheel arch!
On further investigation it looks as though the rear carrier rubber mounts are shot on one side.

The parts that need replacing are item 2 on the diagram below on the flowing link:

I've done a search on this problem and can see that this problem has come up before:

..but it doens't look as though anyone has done a DIY on this???

So, I'm going to attempt to do this but need some advise...
1. Am I likely to be able to do this without a press? As long as there is not too much metal in the bushing I am going to attempt to cut it out.
2. Can anyone tell me what the torque settings are for bolt 6?

I'm amazed that such a significant rubber mount can fail on a car that has never been off road and has done little over 60K.
Having already replaced my CV boots (and the number of threads about other rubber bushes failing) it would appear that BMW don't do "rubber" very well!
