help Sport Suspension question...

I have a 2005 4.4 with sport suspension and i have about 4000 miles on the car... is it me or the sport suspension ride is super harsh? like when going over bumpy roads my head start going up and down and my keys start hitting the steering wheel...

yes, the sport suspension is tight and yes some washboard roads will feel rough, especially if they are small bumps - no setup is perfect for every condition - sometimes a change in speed can help smooth out the ride - on the other hand, I've taken on some big curb bumps that the suspension handled smooth as glass when I know my van would have bottomed out and rocked acouple times because it is set for a much softer ride

I like the harshness. :dunno:

I'd love to have that harshness on my X...but...I don't :(

Did you check your tire pressures? That can make a significant difference. I run 32 back, 34 front with sport suspension and 19" Diamaris and I like the ride - not too harsh, but certainly not too soft either. 20"s will also increase the harshness considerably.

Yeah, it's "stiff", thus the great handling attributes for a very heavy, high C of G vehicle. As suggested, make sure T Press is ok, and it Does soften up, over time. I wouldn't own an X or a any car w/out the firmer suspension.

does the ride gets harsher if you get 19s.. I have 18s and what should the presure be on the 18s for less harsh ride?

I like the combination of non-sport suspension with 19s. It still handles well without the harshness of the sport suspension. If you already hate the rides of the 18s with sport suspension, you will definitely hate it more with the 19s (less tire sidewalls).

I have a 4.4 with sport suspension. I run 19" Diamaris in summer and 18" standard michies in winter. I run 34F, 32R with the 19's and 32 all around with the 18's. There is a bit of a difference with the 19's, but very minor in my opinion. I actully like the 19's better as I can feel the handling benefits. The only 20's I've ever driven were on a 4.8 - huge difference in ride (& also handling) - so much so that I told myself the 19's were as big as I want to go.

bumpy ride

I just purchased a 2001 X5 4.4i with 20" wheels. After riding with my two kids in the back seat and watching them bounce up and down when travelling on bumpy roads or bumpy interstate bridges, I am wondering if this is typical for an X5. (They thought it was fun). I had three adults in the back yesterday and they did the same thing, literally. Kinda embarrassing for me. I have the air suspension so if anyone can help, I would appreciate it. My wife's 2003 Lexus GS300 has a much smoother ride.
