Removing taillights??

Good day everyone. I recently pirchased a new set of tailights for my X (all 4 pieces). I figrued out from a recent post how to remove the outside tailights but the tailight pieces that are on the door that folds down I have not been able to remove. Doe anyone have any ideas on how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You will kick yourself when you see how easy it is !!!

1) Lay the tailgate flat.
2) Remove the plastic trim (of the inside of the tailgate) by prising from the outside (ie. to the back of the car) to the inside (ie. towards the front). No screws, just clips in at the back and velcro holding it from the front.
3) Theres some grey foam under the Black plastic. Pull it out to reveal three 8mm nuts
4) Old lights out - new lights in. Same plug fitting and pinout for facelift and pre-facelift.

10 minutes tops !

Kev.

By plastic trim do you mean the center section on the tailgate that looks like the bottom portion that slides up and down when you open or close the tailgate?

Thats it. Not the flappy bit, but the section that that rests one.

Trust me, when you get it open you'll laugh

Thanks a lot. So do I just pry it open with a screwdriver or somthing like that? Sorry for all the questions but I just don't want to break anything.

No probs. Questions avoid mistakes. Which is a good thing :)

Anything flat really. Start at one end and work your way along. As far as I can remember they just pop open. Once you've worked your way along the back edge just lift up and the velcro fixing will undo.

My car's in at the garage so cant take any photos I'm afraid. Get it back tomorrow if you can wait till then.

all you need is a flathead screwdriver, but some vinyl/electrical tape on the tip, press it into the groove, and pry out. it's very simple. there's nothing there that will break if you do it normally. don't have my car handy, but this is what it looks like on the inside:

only large U shaped clips. you pull out some of the foam and the taillight is right underneath it. those are wires to the tailgate light.

Thanks a lot for the picture. I will try it out tonight. Thanks again.
