battery out - help opening tailgate
 

Hey,

I needed to change out my battery so I looked up how to do it here. Got the battery out and went, exchanged it, came back and couldn't open the trunk lid. Any ideas as to how to open it without the battery in the car?

If you open the hood there is a positive cable on the fire wall for jumping the car that you should be able to hook up to with a pair of jumper cables and then hook up the other wire from the jumper cable to a good ground and hook the other end to the new battery or another car. But be sure that the positive cable in the back is not touching anything that will ground it out.

I called three BMW dealers, they all said to put the key in the trunklid. This is why it pays to be a member here!

Just fyi for next time, there is a manual release in the trunk lid. Takes two seconds and desn't require another battery. Check your manual. :)

Yes, but the roll out deck was in the up position so that I could access the battery/tire compartment, thus preventing me from getting to the manual trunk release.

I hooked up a battery charger and everything worked fine.
