winter tires

im sure this has been addressed, but i cant find any 20inch snow tires for my 02 4.6....any suggestions? (besides changing the rims)

Buy a set of 17" rims, or, if you must, 18" rims.

that's because there isn't any 20 inch snow tires unless you go the "all-season" route. im planning to get a set of 18 inch snow tires for this upcoming winter.

LOL you would think with all the 20+ wheels running around today someone would have a snow tire for them.....who makes the all season tire?? and what rim/tire combo do yall reccomend? thanks for the help!

www.tirerack.com ... where most people purchase tires and/or rims as well.

not sure where you live, but here in DC, the snow isn't too bad. I recently bought a set of Toyo Proxes S/Ts that I plan to use year-round. Do a search here and on goggle to get a full review. I did still keep my 18s, just in case though.

Just say no! 20 are so wide even with snow tires you will be floating on the snow and in to the nearest ditch or worse :wow: Yes I am trying to scare you. Get a set of 17 with 235 for the best traction.
18 with 245-255 would be decent as well.

Be safe

exactly. 20's in the snow are useless. don't go any higher than 18's.

BMW X5 08-02-2005 04:18 PM

wait so my 19s with 285 rear, 255 front will suck here in NYC?

FeelGoodUnInc 08-02-2005 08:00 PM

i live in socal where snow is very light in the mountains, my 20's would still not be recommended huh?

so people who actually buy the 4.8 x5 can't even go up to the mountains during snow season? if i pay that $70,000 + for an sav or suv i'd sure as hell want to be able to get up w. my stocks

most people here with 20s also have a separate set of 17s or 18s for the snow. doesn't take long to swap them out, or have your local shop do it for about $20.

LeMansX5 08-02-2005 10:29 PM

I have a set of 18" rims with Dunlop winter sports just for winter. With my winter tires and 18" rims I can do 60mph on 4" snow no problems. I don't use my 20" wheels on snow.
